ISO
There is much mystery and confusion over ISO and what they are all about. Some years ago consultants made it extremely difficult to achieve ISO, they included so many control loops and over complicated the process. ISO ask you to write down your procedures with in their frame work and then using the plan, do, monitor and review continual improvement cycle manage you own systems. It’s not complicated, it should be straight forward and to the point, you just need to hold regular meetings and record them.
Some of the most common International standards organisation
9001 Quality management
14001 environmental management
18001 H&S
They now offer a combined standard as well
Using ISO is extremely cost effect for large companies, who work on major projects, but also SME can also benefit as they do open many doors. The main advantage is if the company has achieved its ISO they will normally automatically tick all the boxes in the relevant section.
This does not mean that you must have achieved an ISO. PQQ often ask if you have a ISO or if not ask for a range of alternatives. Such as in house system, willingness to work towards achieving ISO. ISO also require that you ensure you use competent contractors or service providers. You would normally state that you would use other ISO companies when possible to maintain standards. So if you an ISO other ISO companies will use you as you will tick their boxes.
